Holy Cow - not a bad choice , might be a different type of player then Albritton/Fitzgerald

I'd say he's the highest ranked recruit to visit GW since Gadzuric....possibly ever.

There's a link off one of Herve's links that says he signed with Missouri in May, but the twitter feed is from today so I have no idea what the deal is.

He decomitted from Mizzou in June.

Yeah, committed in May and then de-committed in June.

They seem to be cramming two recruiting seasons together. or... a season and a half.

10/13/2011 8:55:34 AM - herve - 9,159 posts (#1)

I think it's more of the intense DC recruiting environment and having to take your shots when you get them regardless of the time-frame.

I'm impressed. You have to walk towards success to ever get there. The floor is where it will start, I believe. Lonergan is pretty clinical and demanding in his approach. I don't think that he has ever had three scorers like Taylor, Kromah, and Smith, nor the upside that he has elsewhere in the squad. I wish the entire team and staff the best of luck.

OK so is this when one of the trustees reenacts the scene from that terrible movie Blue chips and buys his family a tractor?Nice to even get a kid like this on campus.

Agreed- this kid already has offers from some great schools.  It is nice that he is considering GW.  Would love to see GW seal the deal!

Montrose connection at work again.

10/13/2011 1:19:59 PM - DEA - 1,465 posts (#24)

It's a long shot but don't underestimate the fact that he could be playing here with one or two of his high school teammates and playing in front of friends and family. It's possible that the 2013 team could have 4 Montrose Christian grads on it, an absurd number.

It is nice to have a top 50 kid coming here, even just to visit, because of the work of the coaches, not a family relationship.

Seems that Lonergan is trying to do exactly what he said publicly, recruit locally (Armwood, Savage, McDonald, Carrera, Larson, Wainright) and internationally (Nnoka and that Greek kid).  Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.  Could have a lot of Montrose/Team Takeover kids on the squad if Lonergan lands a few more, which would be great both talent-wise and to generate local interest.

This is the exact reason why Sutton was hired as an assistant - to get GW into the conversation at places like Montrose (where he used to coach).  It's working so far and obviously it's very early to see how it turns out, but these are encouraging signs.

The mind fairly boggles at even the possibility of beating out, among others, both Maryland and Georgetown for this guy.  Whether or not we land him, kudos to the new staff for getting him to visit.  It's an excellent start.

Amazing the caliber recruits we are going after and those who are visiting!

MIke K,

As you know, some of that is the "new coach" sheen.  Not sustainable, but might as well take advantage of it while we can and hope the "successful program" gloss replaces it soon.

Recap of the Montrose clinic mentioned here before with quotes from coach Sutton and a list of star players, most of whom are GW targets.

10/13/2011 8:27:32 PM - DMV - 52 posts (#200)

Agreed Mike K. But we have been left at the alter before by some pretty high profile recruits who visited during the Jarvis, Penders and Hobbs eras. As a result, I'm not popping the champagne until we have LOIs. But agreed that it is a good start.

10/14/2011 11:15:06 AM - notta hater - 2,492 posts (#12)

before this gets out of hand - Jarvis did go after the nation's top studs.  We lost out for various reasons (could not get some players cleared, players pulled out based on rumors that Jarvis was leaving, etc.  then there was the AI blowback followed by the Richie Parker blowback etc.).  I think the other coaches had some high profile players in their sights but also had some issues with clearing them.  I am not too sure what Hobbs was doing in terms of recruitment.  But no, I do not remember high profile recruits getting publicity for GW visits (was more of a stealth operation it seemed).

Does GW have a set of co-ed "greeters" to show these recruits around campus as done at the big-time BCS programs?  Would that help prevent GW from being "left at the alter"?

as an alum, while i would obviously love to have him this kid is not a gw target. he happens to live with a big 2012 colonial target (emphasis on BIG). of course who knows what can happen if we show him a good enough time?

That doesn't make that much sense. Just because he lives with him doesn't mean he would come to the Invasion on an unofficial visit.

Mentions that GW is interested in him, doesn't mention that he's interested in GW.

Also gave props to the Midnight Madness he attended at Howard, not the one at GW.

an 18 or 19 African American male attending Howard U on a Friday night near the start of homecomming week at HU and no doubt the hundreds of attractive young, ladies there at Burr would make a person yell out some props.  Not saying he is headed there, but he likely saw some eye candy he wanted to send a shout out to.
