Our RPI is still hanging around the top 50, but I assume that will take a serious hit after we play Sacramento State.   RPIForecast has us going around 0.500 and finishing at a ranking of 116.  They're missing games 2 & 3 from the Hawaii tournament though.

I mentioned this on an earlier thread, but insofar as the RPI actually matters (really, it matters more to our A-10 bubble opponents this year than to us) beating Vermont is huge because it presumably helps avoid RPI anchors Pepperdine (1-9 right now) or Louisiana-Monroe (2-7).  Unforatunately, playing Sacto. St is going to drop us many places in the RPI at year's end, although at least it's a road game.

I was poking around on Ken Pomeroy's stats and notice some interesting things, aside from the fact that he's no longer bothering with the RPI.  His formula has us at 104, which sounds about right to me right now.  We're playing a very slow tempo, among the 100 slowest in the country right now -- which makes you wonder how long reporters and opposing coaches will still talk about GW wanting to get up and down the court even though we've become a plodding, deliberate, low-scoring team (that can't finish in transition when there's any traffic).


And the most interesting stat -- we're 10th in the nation in the percentage of opponent's possessions on whiich we block a shot. Memphis is 9th and everyone else above us is a BCS school.

Other intersting stats:

-- Our Assist per made goal ratio is 51st in the nation.  That's a huge improvement over last year and is even better than the 16-0 team.

-- We're shooting an amazing 40.2% from three, good for 21st in the nation (frankly I'm surprised there are that many teams shooting that well from 3).  Epect some really tough games when that number regresses closer to the mean.

-  Our 3 point defense is bad, as we can all tell (37.4%, 281st in the nation), but our 2 point defense is great (38.5%, 13th in the nation). I guess that's the trade-off of our defensive style and all the switching and helping on penetration.  It's actually working out decently because our effective field goal percentage (meaning when you account for the etra point generated for made threes) is a respectible 45.4%, good for 74th in the country.

-- Tonyl Taylor is 42nd in the nation at getting to the free throw line (per minute played).

Interesting stats.  Out of curiosity, I checked last year's final RPI of the teams we've beaten this season.    Considering that AU and UMBC were NCAA teams last season, it's reasonable to assume that as a group they won't be much better this season, even though Harvard appears to be better and BU has often been better than their RPI last season, which was 226.  The average was 180.  And, we've played 4 out of 5 of those games at home.

BM, that site is a little out of control.  Too early.  If you go to the projected dance field it has 8 Big East (and 2 bubbles), 7 ACC, 7 Big 12, 6 Big 10, and 4 SEC teams.  Just not going to happen when one considers that as of 2 weeks from now, the guys play each other and some of them are not going to come out of the league .500
