Thread tends to get long and now, got bumped by the spam bots.  Reviving, good slate of games today.

wax daddy11/21/2017 5:04:43 PM

1) Wichita State looked pretty good this morning - Rashard Kelley had himself a day!! He was down to Wich St and GW for his college decision

2) VCU looking great up 25 at halftime against Cal. Firstly, Cal reallyyyyy sucks....I know they played Wichita State well, but I've watched them earlier this year, they have some talent but absolutely no discipline and coaching. VCU dominating at will, and Mobley 3 for 3 from deep today, don't remember him much specifically last year but as a stretch 4 on that VCU team he's providing them some great shooting...this is all without Mann or whoever they said is probably their best overall player.

Always nostalgic of us winning that tournament ~3 years ago and knocking down wichita state

thomas11/21/2017 6:09:19 PM

I thought Cal would give VCU some trouble because their height(including a former Kentucky player) and a high-scoring guard, but VCU's '94 Feet Of Havoc' has created a lot of problems for Cal. Also VCU sophmore Jenkins(who was their big-time recruit last year) has made that sophomore leap and may be a top player in the A-10. VCU will most likely play Michigan tomorrow.

Louisiana Tech vs George Mason  right now on CBS SportsNetwork - this may be part of a tournament

Penn State vs Texas A&M  right now on ESPN 2 - Championship game of the Barclay's classic in Brooklyn

Richmond vs. Cincinnati   7:30 - Championship game of a tournament. Despite looking terrible in their first few games, Richmond somehow beat UAB by double digits yesterday. I don't think Khwan Fore played yesterday, but he's listed as probable for this game

Davidson vs Nevada  10

Michael Porter out for the year, damn shame.  Like to see these guys go somewhere other than Duke/UK. Would be nice if one of them actually worked out well, to encourage future guys.  Sport would be much better off  if they did.

The pride of GW, Mike Brey's Notre Dame look very LEGIT this year. What a great run at ND by Brey.

the dude11/21/2017 11:35:24 PM

Richmond was down 40-14 at the half.  They are truly awful.  Another team that had the core almost all graduating and not properly replaced (the most drastic example perhaps.)  Dayton, ditto.  URI on the other hand, has been adding core building block recruits every year to an already good roster.

thomas11/22/2017 8:53:45 AM

The Dude,  the Michael Porter situation is real interesting on several fronts. First, how will this injury affect his draft status? Everyone was projecting him to be the #1 pick in the 2018 draft. Also, how quickly is Cuonzo Martin going to fire Porter's father from his staff!! Remember, he hired Porter's father for the sole purpose of getting Michael to sign with Missouri. I think we'll still see top players signing with schools not named Duke, Kansas and Kentucky. Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz will be the example the top players will look to follow, even though both of those guys didn't make the NCAA tournament, they still were chosen #1 overall. Missouri was projected to be an NCAA tournament team with M.Porter.

Richmond will be playing Georgetown in a few days and it was believed that Richmond would be one of Georgetown's tougher OOC games, but with the way they are struggling, Richmond may be on the same level as the MEAC/SWAC teams(they play 4 or 5 teams from those conferences) on Georgetown's OOC schedule. At least Richmond beat UAB though, that may end up being a good win for the A-10.

We all know that Xavier and Miami are going to be rough games for GW, we probably need to add Penn State to the list as well because they appear to be a lot better this year. They didn't beat Texas A&M last night, but they were very competitive with them. Texas A&M may be a Final 4 contender.

gw alum abroad11/22/2017 8:59:14 AM

Cal lost to Northridge. Not sure they would even give GW some trouble. They might beat Richmond, neighboring Richmond High School that is.

thomas11/22/2017 9:22:27 AM

Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Richmond  5

VCU vs. Michigan  5 on ESPN2 -  A consolation game in the Maui Invitational.

LaSalle vs. Miami  6 on ESPN3 online - I believe this is part of a tournament

Fresno State vs. George Mason  6 on CBS SportsNetwork - A Consolation game in Cancun, Mexico

Detroit-Mercy at St.Louis  8

GW Alum Abroad and Wax Daddy,  the only time I watched CAL(prior to the VCU game) is when they played Wichita State and had them down by double-digits for most of the game, so I probably got tricked into thinking they were pretty good. CAL was looking like an upper-tier Pac 10 team against Wichita State. They also have a guard who went from averaging about 4PPG game last year to averaging close to 30PPG this year, he had about 25 in the 1st half against Wichita State. The announcers didn't mention they lost to Northridge, they just talked about how that guard lit them up.

One addition, Looking for a great game to watch:

Wich St vs Notre Dame tonight at 10pm, ESPN

ziik the tentmaker11/22/2017 1:11:41 PM

Too bad about Michael Porter, and his family, too. Is this a back injury? Can it wreck his career? I hope he has insurance.

I had read he was a sure thing pro.

Thomas, keep up your posts. Maybe you can revive a dead GWhoops board.

Dweeb, (Dude, I am taking a shot with a rubber tipped arrow at you), I enjoy you more than the usual suspects, but, there can be too much zest. Of course, given the corpse that is GWhoops, I may be entirely wrong about that.

Herve, I wish you the very best. Of course, I know you have left us all, moved to New Orleans, Zanzibar, or Gay Paree! No matter. Have fun, and kiss Mrs. Herve. A lot.

wax daddy11/22/2017 11:44:52 PM

Too funny Thomas- I’ll have to look up the guard that was lighting it up.... I root for cal living in the Bay Area but it’s going to be a long year

the other mg11/23/2017 12:11:12 AM

Let's not exaggerate - Cal did not lose to Cal State Northridge, they lost to UC Riverside, at home.  They will not lose to Northridge until next Tuesday.  Today they had the distinction of losing to Chaminade by an almost unbelievable score of 96-72.  They had to scramble for a coach when Cuonzo Martin abruptly left them for Missouri and the Porter family, and ended up with Wyking Jones, who has obviously not distinguished himself so far.

Wax Daddy, I live in the Bay Area, too, and was very disappointed with Counzo's record at Cal.  Good recruiter, but bad coach and developer of talent.  Also, bad stuff happened on his staff on his watch, and he got out before the water got too hot, and left the cupboard bare for poor Wyking.  Not a fan of Cuonzo.

1

thomas11/23/2017 8:34:14 AM

Ziik,  I wouldn't worry about whether Michael Porter has insurance for his back injury because he's already pocketed millions from Missouri, AAU coaches, shoe company reps and the other BCS schools who gave him money during his recruitment. He probably has enough money to retire at this point!!

Wax Daddy,  Don Coleman is the CAL guard who lit up Wichita State. His story is interesting because he averaged about 4PPG last year and now looks like he has a shot at the NBA.

The Other MG,  I'll admit to being completely wrong on CAL. When I saw the Chaminade score, I assumed it was a missprint and Cal actually won the game 96-72, but that score was correct. At some point, I'll try to look at parts of the replay on ESPNwatch.com because I don't see how a BCS school can lose to a D-III school by 24 Points!!! How In The Hell Does That Happen!!!And it's not like Chaminade was competitive in their first 2 games in the Maui Invitational, I believe they lost both games by 35+ points.

Mentzinger,  I saw your post last night and was gonna joke that, "It wasn't That Bad For The A-10, At Least St.Louis Won" but St.Louis lost at home to Detroit-Mercy!!! So every A-10 team lost yesterday. Despite the bad night, VCU looks like an NCAA tourney team that will finish 1st or 2nd in the A-10. It's too bad they couldn't win either of their close games against Marquette or Michigan in Maui or their home game against Virginia last week. The game against Virginia was tied with under a minute left.

thomas11/23/2017 9:01:02 AM

Despite the tough day for the A-10 yesterday, there are a few more opportunities today for the A-10 to pick up some good OOC wins

Rhode Island vs Seton Hall  6 on ESPNU - this game will be played at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, so it's probably a 2-day tournament. If THAT 5PM game in Las Vegas on FS1 gets out of hand and you don't want to subject yourself to anymore pain, you guys can always flip over to this game at 6.

St.Joseph's vs Washington State  6:30 on ESPN3 online - this is part of a tournament in California

Harvard vs. St.Mary's   4 on ESPNNews

Butler vs Texas  7 on ESPN2 - for those of you who want to watch PJ

DePaul vs Michigan State  11:30PM on ESPN - I included this game because DePaul took the place of Georgetown who backed out of this tournament on short notice like COWARDS!!! I guess beating up on more SWAC and MEAC teams is way more beneficial than playing someone like Michigan State. What's funny is, Georgetown has dominated the Cupcakes on their schedule up to this point which has probably raised the lowly expectations that a lot of people had for Georgetown, they would be a lot better served playing Michigan State today so they can see how good or bad they really are.

ziik the scrivener11/23/2017 2:55:39 PM

North Carolina is taking a big risk, going uo against Portland.

Are the Blazers any good?

thomas11/23/2017 4:53:16 PM

Ziik,  the Blazers are battling for the 8th seed in the Western Conference, it's nice of them to use their day off to bring in the Tarheels for a game. What a great learning opportunity for those college players!! But seriously, I'm assuming that 16-team/2 venues tournament is sponsored by Oregon-based Nike, they also have Portland State playing in the tournament. It's good that Nike is allowing schools like Portland and Portland State the chance to compete against the "big boys."

Harvard is down by almost 30 late in the first half against 18th ranked St.Mary's, maybe that game won't be as difficult for GW as I thought it would be.

thomas11/24/2017 9:26:12 AM

Rhode Island beat #20 Seton Hall by 1 last night after Jared Terrell scored with about 5 seconds left. J.Terrell ended up with 32 points. E.C.Matthews did not play in this game, he's out 4-6 weeks with a fractured wrist that he suffered in their loss against Nevada. I was surprised by this because he actually returned to play in that Nevada game after the injury. Rhode Island plays Virginia today in the championship game of that event. There's a good chance Rhode Island will be ranked if they win this game.

UMass vs. #14 Minnesota  noon -  This game will be played at Barclay's Center. How many college games are being played there?? It's seems like there are games being played there 24 hours a day!!

Harvard vs. St.Joes  4 on ESPN3 online - Wooden Legacy Classic

Virginia vs. Rhode Island  7:30 on ESPNU - Championship Game at Barclay's Center

St.Bonaventure vs. Maryland  9:30 on CBS Sportsnetwork - This is the opening round of a tournament in Florida

Oral Roberts vs/at Penn State  3 on Big 10 Network

Xavier vs. Arizona State  5:30 on FOX

Hampton vs. Rider  10:30PM  - Apparently, ALL the teams who are part of the Las Vegas Invitational have been playing in Vegas, not just the Big Dogs/Headliners...Who Knew!!! It's good that the tournament organizers allow the mid-major teams to travel to Vegas too. I don't think any other tournament does that.

Missouri vs. St.John's 11AM on ESPNNews - I added this game for those of you who want to see how Missouri fares without the projected #1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. They looked very good yesterday, and they still have Porter's little brother who is also a freshman and has played well.

dmvpiranha11/26/2017 8:11:13 PM

Nick put up 37 on Lafayette in a St. Peter's win.

1

the dude11/26/2017 8:21:37 PM

Over/under on 3's made... guessing 9?  Impressive.

Anyone catch the Gonzaga/Florida thriller? Its the only one I was able to see during the Thanksgiving weekend holiday, including missing both GW games (got the DVR ready!)  Brutal loss of EC, Thomas did URI pull off the upset without him?

Duke Vs Florida tonight, should be entertaining as hell.

gw6911/26/2017 10:49:08 PM

LaSalle beats Temple.

1

the dude11/27/2017 12:22:38 PM

PK80 was just a tremendous tourney, hope y'all got to see some of it.  Duke-Florida, Florida-Gonzaga, tremendous games.  Keep those 3 teams in mind when you fill out your brackets.

thomas11/27/2017 7:00:11 PM

The Dude,  Rhode Island lost to Virginia in the championship game, but Seton Hall will be a very good win. The A-10 has picked a couple good OOC wins already(St.Bonaventure over Maryland, La Salle over Temple, St.Louis over Virginia Tech) last year it seemed as if the A-10 lost every game against BCS teams. Those games in the PK80 tournament were great, the only problem is they all seemed to be played at the exact same time as the all the other tournaments. It was hard to keep up with games.

Did you guys hear about or see what happened in the Minnesota-Alabama game on Saturday afternoon at Barclay's Center?? There was a fight/skirmish in the 2nd half, all the Alabama players left the bench and they were all ejected. With about 3 minutes left, 2 of Alabama's players fouled out, so Alabama was playing 3 on 5, and actually outscored Minnesota during that stretch. They pulled within 3 points with under a minute left and had the ball with a chance to tie. They missed the 3 and ended up losing by 5 or 6.

Howard at Liberty is about to start in a few minutes on MASN here locally

the dude11/27/2017 7:07:47 PM

.... and there's one of the others.    Thomas, any good games, games of interest on tap for tonight?

thomas11/27/2017 8:54:03 PM

Wisconsin at Virginia will be on ESPN2 after Maryland-Syracuse. That game may come down to the final seconds. Virginia is ranked #18 after starting the year unranked. The voters came to their senses, as long as Bennett is coaching them, you have to have them ranked no lower than 20. Even with all the great players they've lost in recent years, he has a new group of players who play the same intense, hard-nosed style of defense as his previous players did.

1

the dude11/27/2017 9:37:12 PM

Thomas didn't have time to respond fully to your post earlier.  That is wild stuff! Would be a lot of fun to a team try to defend 3 on 5.  What do they do, play a 1-2 zone??  How did the other team play D? Double 2 of the guys on each possession?

Hope the A10 lands some more quality OOC wins!

Did the PK80 operate outside of coordination with the other tourneys?  Weird schedule too, why have the marquee match up Finale at 10:30?  Worked out for me as I just got back from the holiday weekend away.  Was kind of a nice break for 4 days from being attacked by people you've never met, on a niche GW fan website for opinions which stray slightly away from the accepted narrative of 1 poster and his attack aliases.  Surely other people see these yea?

the dude11/28/2017 12:50:43 AM

UVA wins 49-37.  Not a typo, 49-37.  Bo Ryan's Wisconsin teams this is not.

1

thomas11/28/2017 8:52:04 AM

I looked up the details of the Alabama-Minnesota game and saw that I short-changed their tremendous accomplishment, Alabama actually played 3 on 5 for 10 MINUTES(the 10:39 mark after one of their players injured his ankle) and outscored Minnesota 30-22 during that stretch!! It appears as if Minnesota wanted to take it easy on Alabama when it was 5 vs. 3, but Alabama was able to come back somehow and pulled within 3(and had the ball) with about a minute left. Alabama has a freshman guard(Sexton) who could be an NBA lottery pick after his freshman or sophomore year and already has NBA quickness, he was the main reason they came back, because of the circumstances, he was able to take the ball and do whatever he wanted. I posted some links down below that show/recap what happened. This game got lost in the news cycle because of all the big college football and basketball games that were played on Saturday

https://twitter.com/Deadspin/status/934576344956047360   Deadspin video showing Alabama cut the deficit to 83-80 with just over a minute left.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDIe6Yj9wI0  this is the full game. I had to share this from one of the youtube commenters..."Why Didn't Minnesota Just Keep A Guy Back On Offense? It Would Still Be 4-3?" Does anyone here know if there are rules against that? The 1:48:00 mark is when the Alabama player injures his ankle and they start playing 3 on 5.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4MUdgsqQWs   higlights of the game

ziik the senile old man11/28/2017 9:14:39 AM

Alabama should sign those ballers up for football, Thomas.

Dude: Did the UVa coach's father coach Wisconsin?

thomas11/28/2017 9:18:45 AM

The Dude,  I just saw that the PK80 tournament was created in honor of Phil Knight's 80th birthday, so it may be just a 1-year event. I'm not sure that they could have this every year because there would be just too many games being played during Thanksgiving week with the Battle For Atlantis, the million games that are played at Barclay's Center, the San Juan tournament, the Charleston Classic and the other tournaments going on.

Baylor at Xavier  6:30 on FS1

Appalachian State at VCU  7

Brown at Rhode Island  7

Florida State at Rutgers  7 on ESPNU

Davidson at Charlotte  7 - Davidson is actually a 7 point favorite in this game, Charlotte(formerly UNC-Charlotte) must be terrible now!! I recall them being a solid program when they were in the A-10...What Happened!!!

Western Michigan at St.Louis  8

Maine at Georgetown  8:30 on FS1 - I included this game because Georgetown is on pace to have one of the worst SOS(strength of schedule) in the history of college basketball. There next 3 opponents, starting with Maine tonight, have a combined 1-18 record!! We need to monitor this. HA!

1

gw alum abroad11/28/2017 9:24:20 AM

UNCC as an A10 member won zero A10 titles and never beat GW. But in the (limited by in-breeding) mindset of their fans, they were God's gift to the conference. (I am glad their class of riff-raff no longer blemishes the conference)

1

thomas11/28/2017 9:30:15 AM

Ziik, great point!! Those 3 Alabama players displayed courage, toughness and heart(those 3 players were exhausted with 7:25 left, the announcer was saying that Avery Johnson should 'Wave The White Flag' but they battled back to make it a game), unfortunately the Alabama football players displayed none of that during their game on the same day. Saban needs to bring in those 3 basketball players to toughen up his team!!

Also, Bennett is the son of the former Wisconsin coach, he played for his dad at Wisconsin-Green Bay. They showed that Bennett and the current Wisconsin coach were both assistant's for Wisconsin for a few years.

1

ziik the senile old man11/28/2017 10:00:27 AM

Thomas, I had understood (as I thought I'd recalled), that Bennett was being courted by Wisconsin, and was grooming himself, to be the Wisconsin head coach, after he got 'adequate' coaching cred.

I wonder, now, if UVa or Wisconsin is considered the better gig for him.

UVa: warm weather, nice facilitities & conference

Wisconsin: a really BIG State U, quality education, but easier to get recruits admitted, an entire state as recruiting grounds, but in a less fertile recruiting area

Where'd you go?

1

the dude11/28/2017 5:00:43 PM

the dude11/29/2017 11:54:40 PM

Columbia took UCONN to OT tonight.  Columbia.

Kevin Ollie is Exhibit 834 that what a Coach does in year 1 and 2 is more a reflection of his predecessor, and years 3-5 are the real tell of the new Coach. ML was Exhibit 787 of that same paradigm.

pkgw11/30/2017 7:15:08 AM

Miami looked really good -  quick and big with some killer 3 point shooters in their win against Minn.

thomas11/30/2017 8:46:30 AM

St.Louis has some bad home losses after the big win over Virginia Tech. I think the that Virginia Tech win will really help them at the end of the season if they have a strong(finish in the top 3) conference record. Miami is very similar to Xavier and Kansas State in terms of talent, size and athleticism as PKGW pointed out. I didn't see their game last night, but I saw some of their game over the weekend. They also have former GW recruiting target Chris Lykes playing well off the bench, he's pretty much doing the exact same things he did at Gonzaga, but in limited minutes. He's going to be very good.

Ziik,  I'm not sure how the Bennett-Wisconsin situation ended up like it did. You would have thought that his father would pass the position down to his son(who was a great college player and had a stint in the NBA). I do recall that Bennett ended up at Washington State, where he had similar to teams to his father and the ones he's had at Virginia who play stifling defense that seem to hold every team they play to 49 points!! During the Virginia-Wisconsin game, they put up a graphic showing that Virginia has been first or second in Opponents Points Per Game in 4 of the past 5 seasons. They were 5th in the other season.

The Dude,  Uconn still has NBA talent(or maybe fringe NBA talent) on their roster, and they did okay in their OOC tournament last week. Ollie is recruiting at a high level, so I'd expect that he'll have them being AAC contenders for a long time.

1

thomas11/30/2017 9:02:36 AM

This is a link to A-10 scores/scoreboard on ESPN. It says that George Mason had an improbable win at James Madison last night. St.Bonaventure won by 20 last night at Sienna, Patsos may be in for a long season after losing his outstanding class of seniors who graduated last season.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/scoreboard/_/group/3

South Carolina vs/at Temple   9 on ESPNU

Harvard at Northeastern  7

Central Pennsylvania College at Howard  7 - I included this game only because it will be Howard's first home game after 7 straight losses on the road. They still have a few more 'Sparring Partner/Pro Wrestling Jobber' games left against BCS teams, but at least they get to play some teams who have a comparable level of talent now

1

the mv11/30/2017 9:23:38 AM

ziik the senile old man11/30/2017 10:05:29 AM

Thomas-My recollection is that Wis thought Bennett needed seasoning before he got the job. So, he's moved on. Still, there have been murmers he'd go back if the offer came. I'm just wondering which he might think is not the best gig.

'The' -  ML is gone. I liked him. From what I have heard since, it's nice he's elsewhere. Your numbering system is screwy. Ollie's been around the block a few times already. Mojo is barely into his first lap.

You watch too much TV.

2

the dude11/30/2017 3:25:38 PM

Temple is expected to be good this year huh?

the dude11/30/2017 3:42:40 PM

Thomas, Kevin Ollie.  I have major doubts there.  From inherting a National Title roster to years 3, 4, 5. not a Pretty trajectory.  You think this year he turns things back around? Is this still UCONN or is that not coming back?

thomas11/30/2017 5:56:44 PM

This conversation on Kevin Ollie is kind of interesting to me and I'm a little foggy on how he's done(I know he won at least 1 national championship and them missed the tourney a couple seasons) so I looked up his coaching record and saw that this is his 6th season as a coach. He's made the NCAA tournament twice in his first 5 seasons and won a national championship in only his second season(I thought he may have been the coach of the Kemba Walker-led UConn team that won the NCAA title, but that was Calhoun), so he's had mixed results.

He hasn't gotten UConn to the level Jim Calhoun had them which was seemed to be an elite, final four contender(with multiple lottery picks) every year, but the national championship and the fact that he was a great player for them should buy him a lot of time before the UConn fans start getting restless about his performance. They had a lot of injuries last year too, so the expectations may not be that high this season with all the injured players just returning to form. UConn was expected to dominate the AAC when they joined since it was considered a step down from the Big East, but it hasn't really happened yet. Wichita State joining the AAC will only make things tougher for them.

1

the dude11/30/2017 6:17:34 PM

Thomas, they had that incredible run to the title in his 2nd year, but with Calhoun's players (Napier and company) I really like Ollie and pull for UCONN but it seems he's struggling to get players anywhere near the level they need to be at.  Bottomed out last year. 16-17? in the American? UCONN??

Seeing that Columbia score made me think, this might be another struggle for him.  Hope I'm wrong!

ziik the senile old man11/30/2017 7:12:30 PM

My family stock is from Ct. Brother played with TomPenders, Toby Kimball, et al. Folks in Ct. are antsy. They want another Calhoun style run/

1

bc11/30/2017 7:34:24 PM

where is KH now?  I didn't see him on the bench last time I saw a UConn game, though I could have missed him.

1

ziik the senile old man11/30/2017 7:45:01 PM

Rutgers?  With another GW coach.

1

the dude11/30/2017 8:28:28 PM

Rutgers yea?

Speaking of NJ (Westfield is State title game http://highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/3296688217380168433/thursday-at-8-live-video-fan-chat-westfield-vs-bridgewater-raritan-n2g5-football-final/

Also, Seton Hall is in position to beat ranked Texas Tech.  SH has a really good team again this year.

tennessee colonial11/30/2017 9:36:57 PM

Hey DUDE  Pretty cool site, eh? I watched for a number of years RC win a couple TOC championships and regional games on this site. Pretty cool to watch your school play while living way out ot state. W up 14-7 at this time.

3

the dude11/30/2017 9:46:33 PM

TC, its amazing! Thx! Would be great to be at Giants Stadium (met life) but this is also pretty great.

the dude11/30/2017 10:56:46 PM

Really good stream TC, better than MLBtv and some other streams one pays for.  Westfield NJ, 3 State NJ State Titles.

Rhode Island beat Seton Hall, that's going to be a good win for the A10.  Really need to land a few more of those in the OOC.  GW vs Temple?

thomas12/1/2017 2:11:46 PM

Ziik,  if the Connecticut folks want those elite Jim Calhoun UConn teams again, they need to convince Kevin Ollie to become a better cheater like J.Calhoun was!! LOL

Towson vs LaSalle  right now on CBS SportsNetwork - This is part of a tournament

Duquesne at Pittsburgh   7

Davidson at/vs #13 North Carolina 8 on ESPN2 - I believe this game will be played at the Charlotte Bobcats arena

Purdue at Maryland  7 on Big 10 Network - I added this game because the Big 10 will start having conference games tonight, which is weeks before most schools start conference play. They're moving up the conference schedule so they can their conference tournament at Madison Square Garden before the Big East does.

the dude12/1/2017 8:22:09 PM

Davidson looks good early, ahead of UNC.  Emphasis on early, about 10 minutes into the half

dmvpiranha12/1/2017 9:35:14 PM

Grambling State just beat Georgia Tech on the road...wow!!!

Also, Darian had 10 points on 4-4 shooting (2-2 3-pt) off the bench in a loss against Navy. He hasn't had a great year shooting the ball thus far but he's started many games for Delaware.

colonial7712/1/2017 9:37:40 PM

1 for 16 From three point range entering tonight game.

the dude12/1/2017 11:12:18 PM

Grambling beat GA Tech.  Not a typo.

Of 351 teams, Grambling was picked 350th:

the dude12/1/2017 11:40:53 PM

Boise St, won at Oregon.  Not exactly Grambling over GA Tech, but statement win for a mid major team that figures to be on the bubble this year.

thomas12/2/2017 10:20:01 AM

I just read that Grambling State had lost 63 straight games against BCS teams by an average margin of 34.7PPG!! The fact that Grambling State was even able to be competitive with Georgia Tech shows that they may be a lot better than 350th. I read that they finished 3rd in the SWAC last year despite being inelgible for postseason play. The NCAA gave them the death penalty a couple years ago. Grambling actually won this game when 2 Georgia Tech players were going for a defensive rebound, but ended up tipping the ball into the net with seconds left. This the play down below.

https://twitter.com/AlanCole01/status/936786178027565062

Davidson lost by 10, but they were very impressive against North Carolina, North Carolina simply had too much talent/firepower for Davidson, which should always be the case when an elite ACC team plays an A-10 team so there should be no shame for Davidson losing this game. Davidson's ball movement and shooting is tremendous as it always has been and they have a star freshman in Grady. Davidson hit 13 or 14 three-pointers. I think they'll be one of the best teams in the A-10. This game was played at the NBA arena of the Charlotte HORNETS(not Bobcats as I wrote in my last post), but they had the Davidson/A-10 logo on the court. How does Davidson get North Carolina to play them all the time?? We've seen around here that the BCS teams(Maryland and Georgetown) are SCARED TO DEATH to play any local team who can beat them!!

When Howard played GW and then Indiana, I was curious to see how their trio of high-volume shot takers(C.J.Williams, R.J.Cole and Foster) would fare against non BCS teams. I looked at Howard's box score in their last game, and those 3 scored 61 of Howard's 81 points in the win, they also combined to go 9-27 from 3-point land.

Lots of opportunity for the A-10 to pick up some big OOC wins today!! LaSalle is currenty playing Holy Cross on CBS SportsNetwork. They must've started this game at 10AM eastern, I wasn't aware that they start games at 10AM now.

Cincinnati at Xavier  noon on FS1

St.Bonaventure at Buffalo  2

St.Louis at Butler  2 on FS1

UMass vs/at South Carolina  2 on ESPN3 online/SEC Network

The LaSalle games are part of a tournament in Ireland

the dude12/2/2017 1:10:36 PM

Thomas, Xavier vs Cincy always one of the more entertaining games of the year.  Its a fight every year and occassionally a basketball game breaks out.  Xavier is TAKING it to 11th ranked Cincy.

ziik the senile old man12/2/2017 1:39:45 PM

Is Ireland still Catholic, or does this Brexit thing change all that?

the dude12/2/2017 1:45:10 PM

Grambling.  Thomas I think they are legit bad, they lost to VCU by 30 but also lost to South Dakota by 30. I think they'll end up around #300 RPI, which for an NCAA hopeful bound team GA Tech, that is going to be some awful loss at home on the resume.

Rhodey vs Providence and SLU vs Butler should be good ones.

thomas12/2/2017 3:34:24 PM

St.Louis was down by about 30(42-13) at the half at Butler, they currently trail the 54-16 early in the 2nd half!! They can't defend, they are sloppy with the ball and look lost on offense. They actually had a possession where they were totally unaware of the shot clock, they just kept passing the ball around and didn't attempt a shot. I don't know what has happened to them. This will be their 4th straight loss.

bigfan12/2/2017 4:00:26 PM

Now 68-34 Butler with under four minutes to go.

Looks like Paul Jorgensen started.

Made one of his very long 3s early. Played very well, missed a few shots, but aggressive and passed, scored, defended (not that big a task in this case.

We got a shout-out when announcers were repeatedly talking about how good Paul was. After he made one of his pretty passes, they started in again. Said Paulie "was an underappreciated passer. He had 81 (can't vouch for their figures) assists at George Washington."

At least against St. Louis, think we have the answer as to the whether the maligned here by some Paulie is an A-10 player.

Even when he had a rough shooting patch, never had any doubt about Paul.

ziik the senile old man12/2/2017 4:37:08 PM

I heard (from multiple sources, some of whom were sources in the Matt Lauer and D. Trump matters), that ML was the guy PJ had his trouble with.

I hardly think a guy takes a hike because of chitchat on a board that has maybe 17 half-witted members, some of whom cannot even recall their own board names on a daily basis.

J hope Paulie supporters make a point of sending him a note, telling him he truly was loved. From where I sit, I cannot think of a guy in recent memory who I'd want to have driven away by a coach or anybody else. It would never work, too many fragile egos and dollars involved. But, I'd like to see a scholarship athlete get his entire 4=5 years taken care of by the coach who recruits him, whether he turns out to be a player or not.

Was looking at Duke. Damn I hate those pricks. But that Grayson Allen is surely the best college basketball player of all time. (So long as you're focused on one legged white guys.)

4

ziik the senile old man12/2/2017 4:45:38 PM

I should not have used 'hate' or 'pricks.' mrs. ziik would have hated me for that, and called me a dumb prick.

So, whichever board poster is 'Grayson Allen' for the day, or ' Duke fan,'  I am sincerely sorry. Please, don't kick me.

2

the dude12/2/2017 4:54:45 PM

Wichita St went into Baylor and pulled off a huge win.  Gonzaga did the same to Creighton last night at home. Harvard is hanging with Kentucky, very impressive.

Thomas, I was not sold on SLU coming into the year, really had my doubts they'd make the big leap expected of them, sometimes I think people can get out ahead of these things, when one can see the transition happening in talent.

aau coach12/2/2017 5:42:39 PM

Jorgensen left ML because of ML is widely known to be true. The quote about feeling' terrorized,' that came from Jorgensen.

9

gw050912/2/2017 6:34:19 PM

Rhodey looking great so far vs Providence. St. Joes not so much. Longpre doesn’t look like anything special.

1

bigfan12/2/2017 6:36:53 PM

Maybe you do know who gave which anonymous quotes to Post.

If so, and you are not Paul's Dad, who is a nice fellow who probably heard verbal abuse (and maybe physical as football coaches are wont to do) playing college football, then no reason such an accusatory quote should have been anonymous.

On the face of it, don't think someone from NY area, who made his rep on city playgrounds, is that easily terrorized.

Probably he mistakenly felt Jaren was going to prevent him from starting for two years. Also badly underused when hot at St. Joe's game. Some, not all, of that would be on assistants not whispering in ML's ear. Whereare those assistants now.

Personally wanted to see more Paul, but it was a very good team.

Also fun fact: Paul was overheard telling his college peers he was transferring  because he thoght he could  go somewhere and play 35 minutes a game.

thomas12/2/2017 6:40:14 PM

C'mon Ziik and AAU Coach,  Jorgenson left because the Gay AD was trying to ruin the program so he could be "friendly" with players and students!! HA!  But seriously, the people who like to bash MOJO can't blame Jorgenson's transfer on MOJO, the leader of the #BowieStrong tribe is at fault for that one!!

Ziik,  are you allowed to disclose what those sources said about Charlie Rose, Roy Moore and Louis C.K.!!

The Dude,  Kentucky may not be that good, or as elite as most of Calipari's UK teams have been, I'm not so sure yet. Calipari even said that he didn't have his team competing in any of the big OOC holiday tournaments because he wasn't sure how good his team was. I wasn't sure what to make of St.Louis either coming into the year, but I was leaning toward them being an upper-tier A-10 team because of all the incoming talent and Travis Ford's BCS pedigree. Everything has gone downhill after the Virginia Tech win, maybe this is rock bottom for St.Louis and they can rebound. UConn is in overtime with Monmouth, it looks like they are going to struggle again this year, although they do have one of their star players(Gilbert) injured again this year.

BigFan, the announcers seem to always mention GW when they talk about Jorgenson. Jorgenson started today and played well as you wrote, he actually started with 2 other guards as Butler went with a 3 guard lineup.

3

gw050912/2/2017 6:45:46 PM

Christian Vital on UCONN looked pretty good. Too bad we didn’t get him two years ago.

1

the dude12/2/2017 6:53:26 PM

0509, sure do, Rhode Island is going to be a beast in the A10 this year, Fats Russell is having a major Star is Born game.  Their collection of Guards and depth is really impressive, EC Matthews out with injury, and not missing a beat.  Wow, FATS is born!

Thomas, agreed all around. Haha.

gw050912/2/2017 6:58:25 PM

Might've spoken too soon on Rhodey.  Choke job is in progress.

ziik the senile old man12/2/2017 7:05:58 PM

Actually, Thomas, yes I can.

Charlie Rose hit on someone I know rather well, a number of years back. So, for him, his office dalliances were not a function of age.

Roy Moore impresses me as a guy with real issues about authority figures. And, a pervert. Louis, is barely on my radar. He seems funny, but, I have known a couple of public masturbators. One was just a jerk. The other, a GW pal, had major depression issues.

Some guys, like Rose and Moore get into jobs that are babe magnets. There are groupies for most every position in society, I think. At one point, I represented a series of ministers who had zipper issues. i learned that one of the perks of a ministry is a certain type of church lady. They are so problemmatic, that I came close to being put on retainer, just to deal with the issue for an entire regional parrish. Thankfully, I missed out on that assignment.

Back to Charlie: way back when, he was the same guy: using money and the prestige of his employer as though they were attached to his dick.

1

gw050912/2/2017 7:11:53 PM

Might’ve spoken too soon about THAT. Guess Rhodey hangs on. Nice win for the A-10.

2

thomas12/2/2017 7:12:12 PM

ALL of you have got to click on the link down below and/or read about what happened with the head coaches of Xavier and Cincinnati said after the game!! Anyone who follows the rivalry realizes that these 2 schools hate each other, but SH@# JUST GOT REAL after the game!! To give a quick recap, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin claimed a Xavier player(J.P.Macura) told him to F@#K OFF three times during the game, and that he would never have someone like that playing for him. Then Xavier coach Chris Mack claimed that when he was a head coach playing a Cronin-coached Cincinnati team during the 2009-2010 season, Cincy freshman Lance Stephenson called him the N-WORD(actually said N***A, F@#K YOU) 3 times to his face, and Mack said he still shook his hand after the game!

Anyone who is familiar with Lance Stephenson knows that he definitely did this!!!  LOL

URI holds on to win 75-68. URI 2-0 against Big East without E.C.

2

the dude12/2/2017 7:48:35 PM

Ziik, worth noting that Roy Moore was not exactly in a "babe magnet job" he was a local Assistant DA, combing local High Schools and malls for girls.

Thomas, that game was lit, there were about a half dozen almost fights, not the fake kind, the, this is going to get very ugly very soon type.  Brutal rivalry, great theater.  Recall the Yancy Gates fight? Not NCAA's finest hour but speaks to the intensity of that rivarly.  2 really good Coaches too.

URI has indeed delivered 2 good wins for the A10 vs Big East, and without EC as well. Impressive.

1

bigfan12/2/2017 9:19:55 PM

Heard Mack at the press conference. Now, there' s a rivalry.

Makes the second B B &T game all the more of a farce. A front for cowardice.

thomas12/2/2017 9:27:22 PM

Ziik,  at some point we may need a 'Story Time With Ziik' thread to hear all the wackiness and degeneracy that you've experienced/seen first hand as a lawyer. HA!  When I see these news anchors discussing the Roy Moore/Charlie Rose/Matt Lauer fiascos, I'm always wondering how many of them really want to tell their stories of being Lauer'd/Rose'd/O'Reilly'd at some point during their career path, but choose not to!!

The Dude,  I somehow skipped over your 1:10PM post about the Xavier-Cincinnati game in which you mentioned how intense the rivalry always is, it's like 1980's Big East basketball and late 80's/early 90's NBA Eastern Conference basketball(especially the Knicks, Bulls and Pistons) where everyone on both sides really hates each other and fights may break out!! After reading through twitter, it looks like Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin refused to shake J.P.Macura's hand in the post-game line, M.Cronin just walked by him. Rhode Island winning these big OOC games without E.C.Matthews shows that Hurley now has them in that VCU/Dayton territory meaning they play at a high level no matter who is on the court for them.

2

the dude12/2/2017 9:49:06 PM

Thomas, so true.  One of the great games to watch every year, Cincy vs Xavier.  Both teams are good each year (when is the last time either team was legit bad??) and there could be an actual fist fight at any moment of the game, there were several new powderkeg/match moments in this one.  Fierce.  East Conference 90s Hoops, haha good comp! Dirty Boys in Detrot, KNicks Bulls, Knicks Pacers, Mourning/Hardaway Heat teams, Van Gundy vs Alonzo Mourning, haha!

URI is legit. They are so deep in the backcourt/wing and they are good from Freshmen to Senior, they aren't go away anytime until Hurley leaves.  Big EC fan, but did not miss one 1 beat without him.  What do you think of the VCU & Dayton long and short term outlooks??  Davidson?

the dude12/2/2017 10:14:58 PM

UNLV vs Arizona.  Preseason #1 Arizona has lost 3 games already, unranked. Yet, they have Alonzo Trier scoring 23/game and Deandre Ayton, dude is 7'1 250, shredded, 19 and 12, shoots some 3s.  Going to be a beast.  Fun matchup UNLV has come out of the gate strong.  I wonder if anyone can ever get them back anywhere near their UNLV Tark days heights?

thomas12/3/2017 5:48:48 AM

George Mason at Auburn     3:00 on SEC Network/ESPN3 online

Dayton at Mississippi State    8 on SEC Network/ESPN3

Morgan State at Navy  1

Cleveland Browns at L.A.Chargers   4:05 on CBS(check your local listings) - I included this NFL game because Josh Gordon will make his return to the NFL. The last time he played in an NFL regular season game was December 21, 2014. Anyone who is a fan of the NFL understands why his return is significant news(he was an elite wide reciever in just his 2nd year, but drug problems derailed his career). If he has a big game and/or makes a spectacular TD catch today, it will break the internet!!

thomas12/3/2017 6:10:53 AM

The Dude,  Arizona may have made some history with that fall in the rankings as they went from being ranked #2 in the polls to being unranked in just a week, after losing all 3 games in the Battle for Atlantis tournament. Last year, UNLV had difficulty finding a coach which led to a bunch of players decommitting and transferring, they didn't have a lot of scholarship players and were terrible last year. They were able to bring in a couple highly-rated, instant impact players this year and are a lot better as they showed in this narrow loss to Arizona. The right coach can get them back to Jerry Tarkanian glory days, any school that has a great basketball tradition and a great location like that can always get it back.

1

fredd12/3/2017 12:43:07 PM

Anybody who watched the SLU Butler game and a full Hinkle knows PJ made a great decision because his last year at GW you could tell it was pure misery

3

the dude12/3/2017 2:09:59 PM

Thomas, agreed! I think they've got that right coach at last.  Would like to see us going toe to toe with him for his Canadaian pipeline for years to come.

Deandre Ayton is going to be a beast.  Think Greg Oden with mobility and a jump shot, and seemingly, health.

the dude12/3/2017 7:55:39 PM

Huge win for Seton Hall, on the road against  #17 Louisville today.   UCF won at #24 Alabama.

Seton Hall could make some noise in the NCAA tourney this year.

1

the dude12/4/2017 6:36:59 PM

Ball pulled out of UCLA by the Pop.

Florida St, undefeated, has a big showdown vs Florida tonight. In a10 action, a very bad Dukes team takes on UMES.  Rene Castro leading scorer for the Dukes this year.

thomas12/4/2017 7:27:20 PM

GW has open scholarships, LiAngelo Ball could be eligible for the 2nd semester since he didn't play any regular season games for UCLA. I've heard that LiAngelo likes to STEAL, maybe he can help GW defensively!! But seriously, what's Lavar Ball's end game here? We know Lavar likes to troll/seek attention for himself, but LiAngelo isn't good enough to pimp out!!

That Florida-Florida State matchup may be good for those of you who want to see FSU get a taste of their own medicine by playing someone who is more athletic and more talented them!! FSU had a tough time with Rutgers recently, the lack of coaching, mental mistakes and selfish play is still there with them. That game is on ESPN or ESPN2. Penn State is hosting Wisconsin right now on ESPN2.

Rene Castro is still in college!! Wasn't he a year or two ahead of Nigel??

4

the dude12/4/2017 7:56:28 PM

Thomas, Rene Castro and Nigel have groundhog day careers.  Aaron Craft I am pretty sure is in this Ohio St Michigan game at the moment, and I expect Mo Allie Cox in A VCU uniform come Febr, having returned from a brieft stint in a Colts camp!

FSU has played a weak schedule, they should get smoked by a really great Florida team, but I predict a much closer than expected affair.

the dude12/4/2017 8:58:22 PM

LiAngelo Ball is like, not an NBA prospect right? What is the end game here?

He ends up playing elsewhere next Semester right?  This is a guy who is not even close to an NBA player, so the straight to NBA talk is pure bluff.  Next steps??  Its the next bro who is a lottery prospect, this guy got too much of Dad's skill set! Thick, not as quick as the 2 bros.

1

the dude12/4/2017 9:10:28 PM

I'm predicting FSU big upset over Florida tonight.

the dude12/4/2017 10:37:31 PM

FSU is up BIG on Florida, +12 with 13 minutes to go.

the dude12/4/2017 11:08:58 PM

Terrance Mann has been a MANN among boys tonight.  Wow.  FSU rolling, huge win.

thomas12/5/2017 11:05:08 AM

The Dude,  good call on Florida State beating Florida, I thought Florida would blow them out. FSU dominated the #5 team in the country, the same way they did the two A-10 teams that they've played this year. FSU's 7-4 center didn't even play last night, and they still dominated.

1

thomas12/5/2017 11:19:50 AM

Texas at VCU   7 on ESPN2 - Shaka Smart returns to VCU!!!

VMI at Davidson  7

Boston U at #10 Miami   7 on ACC Network/ESPN3 online

#3 Michigan State at Rutgers  7 on Big 10 Network - Pikiell and Hobbs have a chance to pull off a big upset here

1

the dude12/5/2017 2:41:59 PM

Thomas thanks, eye opening win. FSU is legit, they were able to take it to the hole at will, and very disruptive against a high octane, explosive offense.

1 more addition to your list of games, Gonzaga vs Villanova, one of the better OOC matchups of the season.

the dude12/5/2017 8:42:32 PM

Rutgers is down 2 against Mich St, late in this game.  Very close game, down to the wire.

the dude12/5/2017 9:07:08 PM

Ball St, won at #9 Notre Dame.  Tough loss for one of GW's finest.

gw6912/5/2017 9:58:30 PM

Butler leads Utah 34 to 31 at the half.P.J.looks great.10 points.

Plays with confidence and always to appear in control.Maturing game!

On FS1.

1

gw050912/5/2017 10:03:52 PM

TIL - Apparently it is written into VCU coach’s contracts that if you leave you owe the school a home and home, which is why Texas was there tonight.   Also, Mo Bamba is a beast. Too bad Jair couldn’t get his former classmate to choose GW lol.

2

the dude12/5/2017 10:25:05 PM

Longest recorded wingspan in NBA draft history. Agile for his size.  Impressive. Speaking of beasts, Deandre Ayton vs #7 Texas A&M is great theater.  I think Ayton has the higher upside, will be better offensive player.  Two intriguing 7 footers.  Best pair in years in the college ranks.

luvdagame12/5/2017 10:27:19 PM

PJ looking solid for Butler right now. GW0509 - I would have been sarisfied with Khris Lane!!!

the dude12/5/2017 10:52:29 PM

Nice to see Coach K with his typical cream puff schedule, but he did really schedule a juggernaut tonight. Credit where credit is due.

1

thomas12/6/2017 1:06:41 PM

GW0509,  I didn't realize that VCU had that written into the contracts of coaches who leave VCU for BCS jobs. The previous 2 coaches Anthony Grant(Alabama) and Jeff Capel(Oklahoma) lost when they returned to VCU. Shaka Smart escaped with a win last night.

The Dude,  I agree about Deandre Ayton's upside after watching him last night, I believe I mentioned Joel Embiid on one of these 'Other Games' threads(talked about how I couldn't think of a center who had his combination of inside and outside skills) after he had one of the great games for a center in NBA history when the Sixers beat the Lakers on the road a few weeks ago. D.Ayton has the same sort of skill set meaning he is equally proficient at dominating on the perimeter as he is dominating in the paint. He's already close to Embiid's level now, Embiid developed his style of play after sitting out a few years due to injuries.

LuvDaGame,  I didn't see any of Butler's win last night over Utah, but I looked at the boxscore and saw that PJ played well. He seems to have fit in nicely with Butler's 3-guard offense as he splits between handling the ball and playing off the ball.

Southern Illinois at St.Louis  8

Thomas, very true, incredible to see a guy with this frame, long arms, and a soft jumper with touch.  SKy is the limit.

URI vs Bama is a key game, would be nice to see URI come out of the OOC looking like a lock NCAA tourney team.
