Bumped again! Temple beat Wichita St tonight. Temple KenPom 82.
Big A10 game tomorrow, URI #1 vs VCU #2. ESPN I believe.
the dude2/2/2018 8:39:22 PM
URI up 11 on VCU about 5 minutes left, at VCU.
Looks like they are headed for 11-0, total league domination. VCU looks legit though good game.
DMV, as an example, I'd point to Hurley's swing at URI, from awful to league domination, on the backs of recruiting. When he didn't yet have the players they were a truly awful team under his helm.
the dude2/3/2018 1:43:27 PM
St Johns, winless in the Big East has an 8 point lead on Duke. They will almost surely not be able ot hold on, but this is rather amazing to see.
the dude2/3/2018 2:31:33 PM
The JOHNIES! 11 game losing streak over, beat DUKE! wow!
Big East >>> ACC
thomas2/3/2018 2:53:56 PM
The Dude, I thought for sure Duke would pull it out when they came back from 10 or 11 points down in the 2nd half. Before the game, I thought St.John's would get destroyed!! I'm glad that St.John's pulled this out because they had played hard in most of those 11 consecutive losses. St.John's should be bringing back all these players next year(I don't believe Ponds is considered a high pick in the NBA draft, but you never know with these guys) along with Lovett who has been injured, so they should be a lot better.
Is there any chance that Rhode Island goes through regular season undefeated? The road game at VCU had to be one of the toughest games they had left. I think they'll get upset in the A10 tournament(due to a lack of urgency) which will allow the conference to get at least 2 teams in the NCAA tournament. If Rhode Island does go undefeated in regular season and loses in the semifinals, it shouldn't affect their NCAA tounament seeding that much.
the dude2/3/2018 3:03:37 PM
Amazing win. The Big East is legit, and St Johns for sure was better than their dreadful record, losing so many close games.
Rhode Island has a real chance huh? What is the Last A10 team to that? St Joes circa 2004?
I agree, they will get upset in the A10 Tourney and the A10 sends at least 2 teams. The Bonnies sitll have the OOC to get an at large bid if they can say win 9 of their last 11
the dude2/3/2018 8:58:06 PM
G'town took Xavier to OT. Xavier wins though 21-3 9-2 Big East. Possible #1 seed resume, GW opponent in Dec.
captain trips2/4/2018 3:34:23 AM
Did Georgetown fire Thompson?
thomas2/4/2018 8:28:18 AM
I didn't see the Georgetown-Xavier game but I was stunned that Georgetown was able to go toe to toe with a team like Xavier on the road. Georgetown was also very competitive at Creighton in a recent game. The first time Georgetown played Creighton at the Verizon-MCI-Capital Centre, they lost by about 25, so Ewing gets credit for making adjustments and having his players better prepared.
The Dude, I looked at Rhode Island's schedule and they still have games left at St.Bonaventure and at Davidson, so they probably won't go undefeated in conference play, but going 16-2 or 17-1 seems like a real possibility for them, and I think they'll be a 4, 5 or 6 seed regardless of what they do in the A-10 tournament. Maybe they can move up to a 3 seed if they go undefeated in the regular season(they'd probably be ranked in the top 15 at that point) or win the A-10 tournament, but Lunardi pointed out earlier in the year that the NCAA tourney committee doesn't really respect the non BCS schools.
captain trips2/4/2018 1:14:50 PM
Xavier should be number One!
the dude2/4/2018 7:47:21 PM
Thomas, so true about URI. They have an RPI of #5! Temple won again today, its been a tough stretch, that Temple win looks better and better.
thomas2/5/2018 6:20:20 PM
Yeah Dude, GW has been through a tough stretch, but the schedule eases up. Even if GW ends up winning something like 5 of the next 8 games, a lot of people here are still going to talk about the easy schedule was and won't give any credit to the team!! Howard has now won 4 straight games, after getting off to the bad start and not being able to play games on their campus a few weeks ago due to frozen pipes. In the grand scheme of GW's season and schedule, Howard's play doesn't mean much, but it's good to see that they are playing well and may have turned their season around.
No games with GW ties tonight, but Trae Young and Oklahoma host #19 West Virginia tonight at 9 on ESPN. Trae Young has stopped shooting all the time, but his decision-making/basketball IQ needs to get better. He made some plays at the end of OU's last game(dribbling into 3 players, throwing bad passes!!) at Texas that were very costly. Also:
Indiana at Rutgers 7 on Big 10 Network - Rutgers appeared to have turned things around this year, but they are still 2-10 in the Big 10 and are doing the same things this year that they've done in recent years under Pikiell/Hobbs, which is have some very competitive losses against good teams, but for the most part, they have trouble scoring 60+ points in games and get blown out a lot because of that.
the dude2/5/2018 10:57:08 PM
Thomas, yea, very true.
Rutgers is doing better this year.... but not tonight! The Trae Young show is must see TV
bm2/6/2018 9:14:41 AM
Rutgers got some headlines with their Hobbsian schedule and the home win (which looks like an abberation at this point) over Seton Hall. Their 2 Big-10 wins were against the bottom of the Big-10. Got smoked last night at home by Indiana (65-43).
luvdagame2/6/2018 8:10:16 PM
PaulieJorgs is really looking good right now!!! Butler tied with Xavier!
luvdagame2/6/2018 8:14:11 PM
PJ is 1-4 FG but his passing has been spot on.
the dude2/6/2018 9:31:48 PM
Xavier wins at Butler 98 to 93. PJ had 2 points in 34 minutes, 1-6 shooting. 0 rebounds. 5 dimes. Has struggled in Conference play. shooting 29% from 3, 34%. Has a Defensive rating worse than his GW seasons.
BM, Rutgers did indeed get smoked, they've made some strides this year but looked dreadful against Archie Miller's squad. That game was brutal on the eyes!
luvdagame2/6/2018 10:47:47 PM
Dude - you are correct his FG% was poor tonight. I was speaking to his facilitation. Some of his passes were amazing. His ability to find the open man was spot on. His assists tonight could have been much higher if his teammates could finish around the rim.
the dude2/7/2018 9:48:06 PM
Luv, I saw some excellent passes from him early in that game, good point.
St John's won at #1 Villanova! From winless in the Big East, losers of 11 straight to back to back wins over #3 Duke and #1 Villanova! AMAZING!! wow
thomas2/8/2018 10:54:31 AM
St.John's turnaround in their last 2 games is STUNNING!! Can anyone think of something comparable in any sport?? That may sound like hyperbole on my part, but St.John's was on an 11-game losing streak, then knocks off two of the top 5 teams in the country!!
Penn State beat Maryland last night which may have ended all hope for Maryland making the NCAA tournament. I've said this before but Melo Trimble really was the savior of Maryland's program and Mark Turgeon's job. It's unbelievable how all the problems that happened with Maryland in the years prior to Melo's arrival(losing most of their close games, not being able to beat very good teams, not being able to win on the road, etc.) have all returned this season.
the dude2/9/2018 7:11:01 PM
Stunning stuff Thomas!
Big one tonight, Rhode Island vs Davidson. Rhode Island is an NCAA tourney lock, big chance for Davidson and their resume with their 50's KenPom.
the mv2/9/2018 7:58:25 PM
Thomas...no team in college basketball history that had been under .500 in February or later went on to win back to back games against two Top 5 teams before St. John’s pulled it off.
the dude2/9/2018 8:42:43 PM
Rhodey has been taking it to Davidson all game. complete domination of the A10.
Looks like a team capable of making a legit, deep NCAA tourney run
thomas2/10/2018 11:20:40 AM
The MV, I'm not surprised. Before St.John's played Duke, they showed Coach K and Chris Mullin talking with each other right before the game, I felt as if Coack K was apologizing to Mullin for what Duke was about to do to his team!!
The Dude, Rhode Island may be ranked 15 or higher when the next poll comes out on Monday afternoon. For the good of the league, we need Rhode Island to be in a position where winning the A10 tourney won't necessarily affect their NCAA tournament seeding so the A10 can get at least 1 other team in NCAA tourney!! Maybe Rhode Island eases up a bit in the A-10 tourney if they go undefeated in the conference's regular season and are ranked as high as 10, their NCAA tourney seeding should be solidified(3 or 4 seed??) if they pull that off.
the mv2/10/2018 11:32:04 AM
Rhody and the Bonnie’s next Friday. Bonnie’s Getz Richmond at home today. Have won 5 in a row and are 17-6 for the season. The OOC wins over Maryland and Syracuse may not look as great as they would have in many other years, but still should carry some weight. Beat Rhody and SBU will have an excellent chance at securing a bid.
old timer2/10/2018 12:53:40 PM
Villanova is playing Butler now
the dude2/11/2018 2:17:12 PM
URI has an RPI of 5.
neil2/11/2018 4:51:53 PM
Congratulations GWU Raise High. Last place.
Fire the entire men’s basketball staff NOW.
thomas2/13/2018 1:48:21 PM
St.Bonaventure at La Salle 7
Richmond at #16 Rhode Island 8:30 on CBS SportsNetwork
Georgetown at Butler 6:30 on CBS SportsNetwork
#1 Virginia at Miami 9 on ESPN
#23 Oklahoma at #7 Texas Tech 7 on ESPN - Trae Young and OU have been struggling of late
Northwestern at Rutgers 9 on the Big 10 Network - this could be one of the few winnable games for Rutgers
the dude2/13/2018 2:21:39 PM
Thomas, good slate of games!
Trae and the Sooners could use a win. What do you make of the St Johns run! How good is the Big East? St Johns went 10-2 in the OOC vs one of the nation's toughest schedules, RPI of 16, then lost 11 straight in the Big East! ... then Beat Duke!
the dude2/13/2018 2:22:50 PM
T, good question about Rhode Island. I think if they run the table, they'd be a 3 seed? Bonnies have reestablished themselves as a solid, in the running for an At large pick
thomas2/13/2018 2:58:55 PM
The Dude, St.John's also beat Marquette over the weekend, so they've won 3 straight now. This probably shows that the Big East is probably the best conference in the nation. St.John's had their second leading scorer(Lovett) for most of the OOC games, once they lost him, they had no chance in the Big East, which could send 7 teams to the NCAA tournament. The conference is just too tough, you have to be clicking on all cylinders to win conference games!! I like to make jokes about Georgetown, but they'd probably be battling for an NCAA tourney bid if they were in a lot of other BCS conferences.
When I checked my twitter feed earlier, someone posted a projected bracket and had Rhode Island as a 5 seed(not surprisingly, they had them playing a 12th seeded BCS team..USC/Kansas State, we know how the committee likes to screw non BCS schools), so if they finish 18-0 in the conference's regular season, I believe they can get a 3 seed, and have a real good chance of making a deep NCAA tournament run.
https://twitter.com/CBBonFOX/status/963114735838228480 projected NCAA bracket
the dude2/13/2018 9:03:33 PM
G'town won at Butler. PJ was 3-9 (0-3 from 3) 6 pts 2 boards 0 assists.
Ewing has G'town 15-10, not bad for year 1 in the Nation's best Conference
