Hypothetical Seeding Question

Was discussing this with friends and I'm curious as to how you all would respond:

Let's say, hypothetically, a Big East team - DePaul, for example - goes 0-for-the-season, heading into the Big East tournament.  They don't win a single out of conference or conference game.  Suddenly, somehow, they get hot, and win the whole tournament.  Automatic bid ensues.  What seed would they be in the NCAAs?  Their record would be something like 5-30, with 30 straight losses to start the season.

While not a major conference, North Texas a few years back made the tournament with a record of something like 12-17. They were a 16th seed that year.

What's the RPI of the team in the hypothetical?  It's hard to see them ever not giving the Big East "champion" worse than around a 12th seed, but you'd think it'd be hard to justify if the RPI is the equivalent of the other 16th seeds or worse.   If it were up to me I'd put them in a play-in game in that scenario.

I think they'd be a #14 seed under this circumstance. Deserving of a #16 seed, conference affiliation pushes them a couple of seeds.

One caveat: if the team was Duke then they'd get a #1 seed.

And Krooshewoosky would petition the NCAA to not have the bad part of the record count on his official resume.

That happened to Georgia in 2008. They entered the SEC conference tournament with a 13-16 record and 4-12 in conference and won the whole tournament. They ended up as a #14 seed playing Xavier and lost.

Having just beaten a slew of good-to-very good teams, they're a 14 seed.  (And I thought that before seeing the other responses predicting the same.)

Assumig they beat a couple of NCAAs along the way, probably a 14. Maybe as low as 15.
