GW would have finished 11th in the big east if they played in such a real conference . . .  Also, it is amazing that GW will not have beaten a single tournament team this season . . . Also, Maryland shouls be in the tournament if they win tonight.

I feel sick.

I like Tony's show but certainly not as a sports show -- he doesn't know spit about sports...that's why he rarely talks about it on his show.  Who cares what he thinks anyway.  Time for us to just hunker down, enjoy what we've already accomplished, and wait for the NCAA's for what will hopefully be vindication.

Tony simply does not like GW, and he's gone out of his way to show his disdain for the basketball team. He's been a sportswriter for 30 years, so he knows his stuff. But he's in a postion that allows him to be an arrogant prick, and he plays that role to the hilt.

Kornheiser is afraid to interview athletes on HIS show.  Do you remember him interviewing any athletes?  I think this pretty much sums him up.

First off, seeing that we beat every team in our conferernce this year...and that we got bumped in the quarters MEANS:

That we will have beaten a tourney bound team this year!!!!!!

Secondly- i saw3 the whole game.  We were slow to the ball, noone played with any passion.  i caught Eliott standing three times instead of going for lose balls.  No communication and no hard play.  You get what you deserve when you play that way.

TK is afraid to interview athletes?  How about interviewing athletes is boring?  What do they have to say?  Because he doesn't interview athletes doesn't invalidate him.  He just deals on a higher plane than you like.  You want to hear athletes talk, turn on SportsCenter and every other sports radio talk show.

Agreed. Carl came to play all day today, unlike some of the other Buff and Blue who had proies and stayed just long enough to enjoy the cinnamon-laced Cincy chili.

I know I am in the minority on this, but I don't think the stuff they serve in Cincy is chili, and whatever it is, I don't like it.  As for Tony K., no, he's not operating at a higher plane than sports. He's just found an arena (radio), where he's master of a certain domain. His show stinks, and I hope he's a flop on TV. He's got a scraggly beard, and a crappy comb-over, too. (I say this as a guy with a scraggly beard of my own.) I hope they put him in a Howard Cosell toupe.

Let's be fair.  *Maryland* would finish 11th in the Big East.  GW would have finished behind UCONN, WVA, NOVA, and *maybe* Georgetown.  So we lose to a Temple team that has been underachieving all year without our most dominant inside presence *and* an important 15-minute a game defensive press-master and suddenly we're chopped liver??  Let's all remember something.  WTEM is PAID to cover Big East basketball.  They want fans to care about Big East basketball.  Ergo, they will waste no time in pimping the opinion that if you are thinking of rooting for GW, that you ought to remember that you would rather be listening to Georgetown games on Sportstalk 980.

All we can do is pray that we are somehwhere near 100% personel wise when the NCAAs begin (Pops and Montrell).   Otherwise, we aren't going to go very far.

At times I like Tony Corh-holer's wisecracks in his sports articles.  Otherwise, he's an overrated dolt.

That being said and off my flabby chest, I feel strongly that we need Montrell (I know, I know, ad nauseum, I'm sorry, sorry) as well as Pops.

BTW, Ziik, if you should find yourself in Cincinatti, eating a bowl of chili in a greasy-spoon, hole-in-the-wall of a diner, and you start saying I don't think the stuff they're serving here is chili ... be very afraid.

i disagree about carl playing well.  he turned the ball over at very inopportune (sp?) times (3 in a row at then end of the 1st half) and didnt seem to want to "hussle" to attempt to correct his mistakes.  I am a huge fan of mr. elliot but today was not one of his better performances,  despite scoring 18 points.

You can say what you want about Tony's comments towards GW and how accurate or fair they are, but the man is very qualified to make those comments.   There's a reason he has a column in the Washington Post, he's on Sports Reporters, he hosts PTI, he's been a radio success, and he was just chosent to help host Monday Night Football.
Although he's a passionate and ecitable enthusiast, he has maintained a venerable stature amongst sports intelligentsia.  I'd liken him very much to a Mike Lupica--somebody who tends to write in the moment and with emotions of fans, and says what those sports fans are thinking.  The nature of that kind of writing sometimes leads people to make bold claims and such, but thats part of the fun of it.

If GW was in the Big East, I'd say we're behind UConn, Nova, Pittburgh, Georgetown,  and WVU but ahead of Marquette, Cuse, Cincy, Seton Hall.  That puts us in the tournament and probably at around the same seeding.  Of course we probably we wouldn't be in the top 25 though....but then again, polls are just a bunch of coaches opinions.

Dootie's absolutely right.  I've been reading and listening to Tony for the last 29 years.  He can be and often has been  a very funny man, although I haven't found that to be the case so much in recent years.  Years ago he used to pay attention to certain sports or teams and seemed fairly knowledgeable.  I don't think he ever attempted to be knowledgeable on a broad range of sports or teams, but that's his prerogative.  Over the last several years at least, he's chosen to be a comedian/comic writer whose fodder is sports, as opposed to a funny sports journalist.  Often when I see or listen to him now, I think he's just cranky or annoying.  Everyone's shtick gets old after awhile, and I don't feel his has really worn well.  When he's on programs with people like John Riggins, they're often both funnier and more insightful than he is.

I agree with much if not all of what's been said here about Horny Tonekeiser, but as a regular listener to his morning radio show (against the better judgment of Mrs. ELJ), I also know he's in the tank for any and every newspaper reporter in the world.  This blast came about because Karl had the temerity to criticize the Post for front-paging the story on Lutheran "Prep" that featured Omar.

It was a lead-pipe cinch that Kornheiser would go off on that one.

That said, I still think the guy's a jerk.  A jerk with wit -- as opposed to a sense of humor -- but still a totally self-centered jerk.
