Fond Farewell to GWHoops

It is with mied emotions that i must say goodbye to GWHoops.  I have recently been accepted by the Archdiocese of Washington to enter the seminary up at Mount Saint Mary's and, God willing, in si years time will be ordained a Catholic priest.  In order to devote myself completely to this calling I will have to spend far less time online, as well as giving up my tickets, and thus will no longer be able to contribute to the board.

To all who make this forum great, especially Herve for putting up with our shenanigans, I'd just like to say  a quikc and heartfelt thank you for making my GW basketball eperience far more than that of a casual fan.  Thanks also to those over the past two years who have helped in contributing their tickets around the holidays for military and underprivilaged families, it's brought kids in our community a world happiness.

Know that you are all in my prayers and GO G-DUB!

If you make it all the way to priesthood you might find yourself in an ecellent position to funnel some of those outstanding Catholic prep-stars from the northeast G-Dubs way.

GWIslander,

I would like to say that, if you had seats near me at the Smitty and heard anything untowards, then, I just want to let you know that it wasn't me, it was my daughter.

Seriously, I would very much wish you the best in your journey. I totally respect the dedication and devotion to your calling that will take you there. I think we have grown to accept the fact that we appreciate what some folks do in the military as worth our thanks. I think that it is even more critical that we thank you for your service.

I can totally understand that you need to radically change your pursuits. Do, however, find a way to check in with updates. Best to you and may you reach your goal with the same charm and fellowship of which you were so nice to share with us over the past years.

Good luck Aleander.  Glad you found your calling.  I'm sure the Society of Mary in Dayton would love to have you, but the local diocese won out.  I'll have a good thought for you.

Best of luck but don't fool yourself in to thinking priesthood and fandom are incompatible realms. Our town has its mass at 9:30 am (usual time is 10am), the tradition started in the 1980's when the priest was a huge fan of the town's soccer team. Since games kick off at 11am (don't ask, and yes it makes tailgating difficult) and he didn't want to miss a game he moved mass up a half an hour. When the service would finish, he would march the congregation the block from the church to the stadium for worship of a different sort. No reason you won't be able to wear buff-and-blue vestments.

Best of luck to you.

Please try to remain a fan in some capacity, we need all the help we can get.

But really, good luck.

Not another misleading, deceptive thread title designed to draw us in only to find a post we weren't epecting!

Just kidding :)  Best of luck, Ale, in all of your future endeavors.

As a person who was raised as a Catholic, thanks.  In this age, it must have have been a challenging decision.
