Sorry, I don't know much about how the Baseball system works when it comes to being drafted..so forgive my ignorance, but this is an attempt to gain a little knowledge.  I also should apologize because for all intensive purposes, this is a Basketball site....but I consider it simply a GW sports site....so.

1) What are the chances of players drafted in those rounds actually making the team (AAA, AA, etc) or the Majors.
1B) if they make the majors, how many years are we talking?

2) how much money can they epect to make being drafted in those rounds?

I had a friend drafted out of high school, no idea what became of it, but I think he was offered something like $50k.  I could be wrong, memory is fading in my old age.  Is that a typical payment if your drafter out of HS?  Seems kinda low if your good enough to be drafted that soon.

With that in mind, do baseball players go on to college if they are drafted?  I assume the answer is no, they go to a farm team or something (is farm the correct term?).

Ok, I think that's all I have right now....

Than for the feedback.

The MLB Draft is one of the more unique drafts. Anyone that meets the requirements can be selected. A player does not need to put their name into the draft. A player can be selected if they are a highschool senior. After that a player may not be selected till three years after their highschool senior year.

For Lehman who is a senior in college he will be very likely to sign a contract with the Nationals. I do not know for how much but i can assume it will be for a decent amount in the 13th round (maybe 25k- i could be way off). It really all depends on what the team is willing to offer. Dignelli is a redshirt junior meaning he could technically come back and have another yr of eligibility .

The MLB Draft is also all about luck. Some guys who are picked high flame out and some guys picked really low ecel. There are usually either si levels of minor league baseball (rookie, short season, low a, high a, double a, and triple a). Most of the guys drafted usually start in rookie or short season depending on their eperience. Some guys take a season in the minors before they reach the majors some may take eight or nine years and a few teams before they make it, if at all.

For how much minor league players make this may be a good guide

The only college seniors drafted that go unsigned and unassigned are those that choose not to seek a career in baseball. All other college players drafted have to choose between college and pro's, they lose no elligiblity by being drafted -- there is the famous case of Lance Blankenship who in his junior year was an all-American and finished third at the CWS, turned down a reported $300,000 signing bonus (in the mid-80's before greed really inflated prices, today's equivalent would be $2M at least) and returned to college for his senior year thinking he would win the CWS and be national POY. Instead, his team finished with a losing record and he was barely honorable mention all-conf. He was either undrafted or picked really late and signed for a standard low-paying contract. He eventually made the Bigs but was not fast-tracked to the Majors the way he would have been had he signed after his junior season. High school seniors drafted can either sign or choose college (again, eligibility is not affected). Occasionally high schoolers make a quick jump to the Majors (pitcher Mike Morgan made his Major League debut a week after his high school graduation), but that is the eception not the rule. It is one reason why good college teams are considered better than most Class A teams-- the Class A team is younger.

To entice high school graduates and college juniors to turn pro, many organizations agree to pay their college tuition if and when the player's career ends or he decides to finish his degree.

The problem with college teams is that a lot of them don't play enough games for the players to really develop, and, paradoically, a lot of the better teams used to, and may still, ruin good starting pitchers by overpitching them.  It wasn't all that long ago that top pitchers would pitch some huge percentage of a team's games, and it may still happen.  Ben McDonald, for eample, was a guy who could have been a real major league stud, but his college coach (LSU?  Teas?) way overused him, and he was damaged goods when the Orioles signed him, and was often hurt in the majors.  Clemens actually went through the same thing at Teas, and ironically, it was thought that he wouldn't have a long major league career because of it.  The Red So had to kind of baby him for a few seasons until he got over it.

An interesting fact:  Danny Goodwin, a catcher, was drafted #1 at the end of high school, went to college, and was drafted #1 coming out of college.  After all that, he played 252 major league games with a .236 average.

Per Mr. Days. GWs Jake Wald, who played on a talent loaded team that went to NCAAs, got tuition money from the Giants. As did Anthony Raglani. They both came out as Juniors. Wald is currently in Fresno. Rags was in Florida last I heard.

Add: Mike Piazza is likely the most famous eample here. 12 time allstar, most HR ever by a catcher (maybe steroids helped) was the last player drafted by the Dodgers in the 62nd round in 1988 -- likely as a favor to Dodger manager Tom Lasorda who was godfather to one of Piazza's brothers. He did ok.

It is the luck of the draw.  Some of MLB best were drafted later.  Similar in Basketball.  Jordan never made the team as a Jun in H.s.  One never know.  The star at Sac is one of NBA's best, but at one point a 3rd stringer in college.  Some guys. whether baseball or basketball develope slower and turn out to be real sleepers.

Jake Wald has been dropped down just recently by the Fresno Grizzlies. He may end up making his mark in music, anyway. Stache and Hawk.

Lehman is off to a great start with Vermont of the short-season class A New York Penn League. He is 2-0 in his first 4 appearances in relief with an ERA of 0.77. His most recent appearance on July 8 was 4 2/3 innings of work allowing no hits with 4 strikeouts. Josh Wilkie is also pitching well for Harrisburg of the AA Eastern League. Josh is 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA. Nice to see the Nats mining the Colonials talent.
