will 17-5 get us back in the rankings?

If we win the net three at home (and considering the trouble we've had in the past with Richmond, that's no guarantee), will that get us in the top 25 again?

BM2/7/2005 7:37:00 AM

Doubt it. 19-5 (wins at , UD) will. The Pomeroy ranking is a much better indication of wher we sit. We're at #36 there and it predicts a 19-7 regular season record.

GDub Enthusiasm2/7/2005 7:40:00 AM

The win in Temple may get us some votes, but we won't crack the Top 25 unless we win a few more.

Kleos2/7/2005 7:56:00 AM

I don't want to be in the top 25 for the remainder of the season unless it is after winning the A-10 tourney in Cincinnati. That doesn't mean I don't want to win, just that I'm happy with our boys feeling like they have something to prove.

Alumnus2/7/2005 8:48:00 AM

Definite maybe, but counting wins before the games they're played will definitely bring bad karma.

Tennessee Colonial2/7/2005 10:31:00 AM

No, but who cares. We need to win the A10 tourney. Why? Because its time. And looking at Carlotte coming in net year its our best chance.

BM2/7/2005 11:43:00 AM

It's a start.

Greg's Midget2/7/2005 1:48:00 PM

I think 17-5 would get us back in the rankings, and while it's not as important as the A-10 tourney, it's still an important measuring stick. Anyway, I do think that beating Temple and Richmond on national TV in consecutive weeks with a GW fan like Jarvis beating the drum during both broadcasts will win over some viewers. And, a five game win streak in the second half of the conference schedule is nice to have, even if it does include Fordham and the Dukes. Now, let's just get it done and see what the voters think!

Monument2/7/2005 2:09:00 PM

The important thing about being in the top 25 is that your school's name is out there on the little bo when ESPN reports the scores each night. Also, selection people can react with recognition when GW is mentioned, rather than, I have not heard much about them lately.

mailvan2/7/2005 2:20:00 PM

Hey Midget, "a 5 game winning streak in the middle of the conference schedule is nice to have?" We have a 2 game winning streak with upcoming home games against Richmond (0-1 this season, 2-6 in our last 8), Fordham (unlike GW, they've beaten avier this year), and Duquesne (won at Dayton, lost at Richmond by a point). Should we call these teams and tell them to not bother paying us a visit because we have already won these games? I'm not saying we won't win each of these games but net time, you might want to show a little respect and say that "a 5 game winning streak would be nice to have".

DH2/7/2005 3:21:00 PM

Can I just say that we're fans, and no one cares if we look ahead? No one puts our quotes on bulletin boards. I think it's funny when a fan gets slammed for counting a victory that hasn't occurred yet. Newsflash: We're NOT on the team!

mailvan2/7/2005 4:20:00 PM

DH: Newsflash: GW just won the national championship. You know, you're right. That was a lot of fun. And by the way, using your logic, this board would truly be a product of The Stepford Wives. An endless supply of "I agree" and "Good post", which incidentally, I'm always happy to write if I happen to agree with what's being said or if I feel someone made a good post. However, someone who feels we've already won games that we haven't played yet is someone who I am not in agreement with. If that's slamming someone, sorry.

Omo Kwame Vaughn ... and Nimbo2/7/2005 5:00:00 PM

Debating whether 17-5 would get us ranked presupposes a 5-game winning streak. I doubt Midget thinks the net three games are in the bag, but in this hypothetical situation, they are.

Casino2/7/2005 5:28:00 PM

19-5 puts us back in.

Bigfan2/7/2005 11:51:00 PM

Boy that is far from a given, but certainly something we'd love to be able to find out.

With the conference being so down this year there is no certainty that we will be back in the top 25 even if we win out. It is unfortunate, out of our control, and no fault of our own, but that is the way it is.

Greg's Midget2/8/2005 8:25:00 AM

DH and OKVaN, thank you for the defense. Of course we're not 17-5 right now, but I took the first post in the thread to mean, "assume we win our net three games." Mailvan, if you really do want to call the Dukes and Fordham and tell them not to show up, that's still fine by me. I doubt they'll care.

FerdSuperFan992/8/2005 2:05:00 PM

Mailvan is that guy at the bar three stools away who overhears your sports conversation and jumps into to correct you because you said Alvin Robertson owns the all time NBA single game assist record when everyone knows its Scott Skiles who broke the record with a bounce pass to Jerry "Ice Man" Reynolds in the final minute of a blow out at home against Denver. Fordham and Duquesne are all but certain wins - and we are going to be favored by several against Richmond. We will be 17-5, but I don't think that will get us ranked.

mailvan2/8/2005 2:40:00 PM

And FerdSuperFan99, you're the guy who looked at our schedule and said "UMASS? That's a win."

FerdSuperFan992/9/2005 7:18:00 AM

I admit I was suprised by the loss, but if we can't assume/epect wins against Fordham and Duquesne, then we can't hope to make the tourney. I'm all for being realistic, but the day before predictions on this board are going to show at something like a 3-1 epectation of romps for Duquesne and Fordham and only slightly less optimistic for Richmond. (And that assumes you and LongSufferingPessimist check the board that day).

LEVINATOR2/9/2005 2:59:00 PM

If we go 17-5, and clearly i use the word "if" so as to not chastise myself from future conversation, then i can foresee about 30-40 votes in the AP and a ranking near 30. THE BOTTOMLINE...if we are dancing this year, then we MUST win our net three home games. We cannot rely on winning the A-10 tourney on the road, if we can't lock up consecutive wins at home against conference foes. THe real argument here is if GW really belongs in the top 25. Are we better than MSU and Maryland now, as opposed to when we beat them? The answer to that question will ultimately decide which side of the fence you lie. GW IS ALREADY A TOP 25 CALIBER TEAM...that doesn't mean they always play like it. MATURITY is GW biggest lack, not depth, not 3 point shooting, not guard play....maturity. And with 6 guys who score over or just about 10 ppg... and with Rice (a highly recruited PA talent)our future looks VERY BRIGHT.
