From Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

One of the coaches who will be interesting to talk to is George Washington interim Maurice Joseph, taking over for Mike Lonergan late in the game under unfortunate circumstances. This could be a setback for the program’s future, but I don’t see it hurting the Colonials all that much this year, mainly because I happen to like their roster.

Cappy10/11/2016 5:51:29 PM

I happen to agree with the PPG on that one.  This roster has some talent and 1 for sure premier player.  I hope to be pleasantly surprised by this season!

ziik10/11/2016 6:07:01 PM

Yuta's play, and Steeve's, will interest me. (I assume the new big guy will be the rebounder, with Ty)

I want to see what positions the 2 big shooters play. Yuta improved in every area last season, esp. with his forward skills (rebounds, blocks). But, i am convinced, given his slender build, he is a guard, all the way.

Can Steeve play G and F?

The Dude10/11/2016 9:48:25 PM

Also agree, largely for the reason I stated on the other thread.  A team is mostly about roster construction, for all of the talk about X and Os winning games, its about the roster.

What type of roster we have though, I think we're a month away from being able to have a better sense.

Long Suffering Fan10/11/2016 10:10:19 PM

Thank you for posting, Cappy.  Intersting that the first post Lonergan prediction (at least the first that I saw) has GW picked for 7th, which is about where I would have had them with Mike.

Cappy10/12/2016 2:16:29 PM

You are welcome LSF.  There are so many unknowns with many of GW's players this year, but I am optimistic that the work they put in, the coaching continuity (for lack of a better way to put it), and some upperclassmen leadership can carry this team farther than we expect!

Still Here10/12/2016 4:12:10 PM

I think the article brings up a very interesting point. This is going to severly hurt our 2017 recruits. I happen to think ML was a great recruiter for us as he found gems and then once we got some good press he got a great class that is coming in this year. For arguments sake lets just say MoJo is equally as good at recruiting and spotting talent. Why would anyone sign with us this year if we have an interim head coach? This could mean we get our weakest recruiting class yet and go to work next year losing Tyler and Sina without replacements.

Does anyone know if there is any intention of upgrading MoJo's status? Let's say for example he beats UGA and Kansas, would that be enough to give him the job? I'm not saying he/we will do that, but if it happened would he get the job? If it's possible for him to get it, I hope they make that call early in the season so we can actually recruit for 2017.

Bo Knows10/12/2016 4:16:24 PM

College coaching is consistently undervalued by those who do not really understand what it takes to be successful. They think if you just have the best talent you will win. Except Villanova didn't have close to the best talent last year, neither did Syracuse. Yet those teams ended up in the Final Four and one actually won being led by 2 seniors (who are on NBA bubbles and probably won't make a roster and 2 juniors who will likely not play in the NBA either). In fact, we've heard here what a great coach Mark Few is by one poster who goes by too many names to address all of them. I guess he just has had a lot of talent lol.

ziik10/12/2016 4:22:22 PM

Is your every post an excuse to take a poke at Dude, Bo?

How about writing for an audience of GW fans who know basketball, for a change, and skip the pedantics.

I am sure you can do that

bobo10/12/2016 4:36:59 PM

So GW fires its coach and promotes it's 3rd assistant to interim HC status.  He has no experience as a HC at any level and no proven track record as a recruiter.  GW wins a couple of games in November and Still wants GW to make him the permanant head coach locking GW into that choice for years.

Panic move.

Bo Knows10/12/2016 4:37:30 PM

Well ziik, I'm glad you asked. Seems like the Dude (or whatever other names he goes by today) has a lot of opinions including one that said that Mark Few is an excellent coach and Tom Crean is not. Of course, then coaching did seem to matter - e.g. At that time, Few was a great coach because he did more with less and Crean was not because he did less with more. Now it's about "roster construction". Hard not to find a thread where Dude and his daily nom de plume doesn't contradict himself from an earlier thread. Just find it worth pointing out occasionally. It would be a full employment act if I did it as regularly as you suggest.

ziik10/12/2016 4:45:22 PM

I really do not care about your fascination with  Dude, or anybody else, Bo.

How about just serving up some straight basketball information?

Anybody who cares can track anyone else's electronic, fictional persona, if they wish. If we can read, we don't need you to be a guide dog.

Bo Knows10/12/2016 5:32:56 PM

All but the last two sentences of my initial post was straight basketball information ziik.

Same with almost all of my recent posts in case you are keeping score.

BC10/12/2016 5:41:48 PM

So then Bo, why add those last two sentences?    Haven't we had enough bickering on the board this year?    I ask both you and The Dude to stop.  You both debase yourselves with this "got to take a poke" additude.   And you both demean the board.   The ironic thing is you both have good basketball knowledge, yet you both have pissed off any number of long-time board readers.

Fan10/12/2016 6:24:43 PM

Bo, as everyone here has noted, you are the problem

Get a life Bo stop obsessing over one poster.

Mark Few won mostly because of great recruiting, as I've always said. Same reason all HCs do the bulk of their winning.  We had long threads about this, enough with the dishonesty Bo.

Bo, read what people have typed here and listen to it for a change.

BC10/12/2016 7:56:39 PM

See Dude, you just had to take a poke.  Stop it.

The Dude10/12/2016 10:38:40 PM

BC, you had it right the first time, Bo is the problem as you all know, and has been for a very long time.

But in this case, I don't mind responding. like I said, my thoughts on Few are well known, and they relate to GW, so worth commenting on, IMO.

Of course Fan and Dude are one and the same BC. ijs.
